Real Life Stem Cell Stories
These are real stories from real people who have already been waiting too long for the promise of stem cell research. Read them -- and then take action:
1) Tell your elected
officials to get rid of outdated policies and regulations that have already
held up stem cell research for too long; 2) Make a donation to StemPAC, and
help us spread the word. It's a grassroots movement, and we don't need much --
but any amount helps.

Cloning in embryonic stem cell research doesn't mean the creation of babies or fetuses. Cloning in embryonic stem cell research is taking a cell and having its genetic information at the nucleus reinvigorated, so that new tissue can be grown with the same genetic code as the person it was taken from. This procedure can aid in creating laboratory models of cancer and genetic disease. Scientists could be able to determine how a particular mutation causes cancer so they can treat or prevent it. Cloning is necessary for this type of stem cell research, it cannot be conducted with adult stem cells, bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, or traditionally-fertilized eggs, because they cannot differentiate into all types of cells like embryonic stem cells can.
Embryonic stem cell research is the thoroughfare to finding a cure or better way to treat cancer or any other disease caused by genetic mutation and malfunction. I've had numerous relatives and friends that have died from the side effects of treating this dreadful disease. My wife was a twenty-four year survivor of ovarian cancer before she developed her first recurrence. Her life was greatly shortened and neurologically deteriorated by the chemotherapy and radiation treatments she received at our local community hospital. It's too late for her, I miss her very much, but with her spiritual inspiration, I will give any needed support to further embryonic stem cell research by our government to highten the war on this disease.
