I am a 41 year old stroke survivor that suffers every day with left-sided paralysis. According to the National Stroke Assoc; Approximately 400,000 persons suffer a stroke per year in the United States Stroke is the leading cause of serious, long-term disability among American adults and places a tremendous burden on both the private 'and public health resources of the nation. Of all impairments that result from stroke I am requesting your support to help with the advancement of stem cell research and itâ¿¿s endless possibilities. I was previously a very healthy & active 39 yr. old female working a full-time job with the USDA and being a Fitness Instructor at the local YMCA, taking care of my young daughter, being a wife, sister, and daughter were all I wanted to do until my life drastically changed on Dec 9, 2002. I was awakened in the early morning hours by emergency crew. I had gone into a shocking seizure and my husband had called emergency staff. Following several hours of scans, it was found out that I had a large brain tumor. On December 12, 2002, I headed into surgery at the Mayo Clinic and suffered a right MCA territory 2 stroke following removal of the large 6 cm. benign .(meningioma) tumor and I still suffer from left sided paralysis following conventional therapy and approx one year of acupuncture therapy, and I am unable to raise my young daughter; provide full-time assistance to my family, or even work at a full-time job let alone be a Fitness Instructor. I am trying to find ways to get my body back to what it was before the uneventful tragedy.
