Real Life Stem Cell Stories

These are real stories from real people who have already been waiting too long for the promise of stem cell research. Read them -- and then take action:  1) Tell your elected officials to get rid of outdated policies and regulations that have already held up stem cell research for too long; 2) Make a donation to StemPAC, and help us spread the word. It's a grassroots movement, and we don't need much -- but any amount helps.

I believe people want to get involved in certain issues and sometimes are held back because they feel if they do not have funds to donate, they can't make a difference. Recently I heard Al Franken ask if every person who has a family member or friend who would directly benefit from stem cell research would launch a web page saying just that, it would help raise public awareness. Personalize the issue. Since that was what I could afford to do, I did it. It⿿s a simple free AOL page about my father, a wonderful man, a great parent, a vet, an American patriot. I sent the page to Air America as well as my government representatives. Of course no one has ever responded. Now I am forwarding it to you. Right now a free web page is the most many of us can offer but I can⿿t help believe that the more of these pages that appear, the more the public will begin to see that the face of stem cell research is actually a real person. Thank you for your time and efforts.

This Is My Father

My father is a loyal American, who served his country and fought for our freedom in World War II. My father raised his five children and another two who he took on because every child deserves a parent. My father lost a son to cancer. My father watches over numerous grandchildren. My father worked his whole life and voted in every single election. He paid his taxes and followed the rules of society in an effort to make the country and the world a safe place for us all. My father is 82 years old. He just got a patriotic tattoo because life is short and why not show everyone how you feel? My father still plays golf at 6am every day although he can no longer carve the Thanksgiving turkey, but why sleep in when you can get some exercise? My father reads every book he can, although it is difficult for him to turn the pages or to hold the book steady because he wants to know what is going on in the world. My father has Parkinson's Disease.

What Are You Waiting For?

My father is the kind of American that most people just aspire to be. My father deserves a chance to keep reading and participating as a dedicated citizen. My father deserves an Up Or Down Vote. My father deserves every possibility that stem cell research can discover.

This Is My Advertisement

If I could, I would take out an ad in every newspaper in the country so everyone could meet my father and know what a wonderful man he is and how his active life has been impacted by this disease. Everyone would know that help IS actually out there and the tools to finding that help are available to doctors and scientists. Please Rethink Your Position On Stem Cell Research. My father is waiting.
