Real Life Stem Cell Stories
These are real stories from real people who have already been waiting too long for the promise of stem cell research. Read them -- and then take action:
1) Tell your elected
officials to get rid of outdated policies and regulations that have already
held up stem cell research for too long; 2) Make a donation to StemPAC, and
help us spread the word. It's a grassroots movement, and we don't need much --
but any amount helps.

We have sent a version of the letter below to all our local and national senators, representatives, and congressmen. A few even responded:
Dear Representative ???,
Our household would like to let you know of our strong belief in allowing embryonic stem cell research. We urge you to support this worthy cause and all future efforts to begin this important research.
In 1998 at the age of 4 our son, Adam, was diagnosed with leukemia. Three and a half months after beginning chemotherapy he suffered a rare neurotoxic reaction that nearly took his life. It left him permanently paralyzed from the waist down.
As you can imagine, being told your son has leukemia is devastating. Then watching him nearly die and being left with no bowel or bladder control, unable to walk, and a host of serious medical issues for the rest of his life, goes so far beyond devastating that there is no description for it.
Adam is a real trooper though. He doesnt let being in a wheelchair, or the never-ending medical procedures, slow him down. Adam is an all A student and just finished 5th grade. He plays wheelchair basketball with the Sterling Heights Challengers. They took third place at the US National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Birmingham Alabama this year.
Most of all Adam wants to be like other kids. He wants to be able to go to a friends house and walk up the steps, not be stuck outside in a wheelchair. Riding a bike, playing baseball, going camping, going to the beach, and a million other things are denied Adam or are extremely difficult to do. Adam would like to fully participate in gym class, recess, school plays, and other class activities. Recently his school had field day. Adam wanted to stay home because there is not much for me to do.
We have been following spinal cord injury research for almost 7 years now. It is our belief that embryonic stem cell research offers the most hope for a child like Adam to regain some of what he has lost.
Please support embryonic stem cell research. Millions of people with thousands of diseases like Alzheimers, diabetes, leukemia, paralysis and more, are desperate for a breakthrough that could improve or even cure their condition.
Please think about an 11-year-old child who faces a lifetime in a wheelchair along with a host of serious medical issues the next time you have an opportunity to support embryonic stem cell research. Your support of embryonic stem cell research may one day help Adam get out of his wheelchair!
This issue is so important to us that we will no longer vote for any politician, be they Republican or Democrat, who does not fully support embryonic stem cell research.
Sincerely,
Don, Lori, and Adam
